I’ve been wearing the veja esplar for a year now and find them incredibly comfortable and versatile. I ordered the Recife because I wanted Velcro closures. I just seem to get laces on my shoes very dirty. These are just as comfortable as my esplars. I wore them continually for 2 days with socks to soften up the tongue. I am now wearing them without socks and they fit great. I typically wear a 9.5/10. I size up to a 10 in hikers and running shoes. I needed to size down to a 9/40 in these which is my usual size in European shoes like Ecco.

I have been wearing the Veja Esplar for a season and decided to order the Recife because of the Velcro closures. For some inexplicable reason I can’t seem to keep the white laces clean on my shoes! These shoes fit well and are comfortable. I wore them for a couple of days with socks to break in the tongue, which can be a little stiff. I typically wear a 9.5 and size up to an 10 in hikers or running shoes. In Veja I have to size down to a 9/40 which is my usual size in European shoes like Ecco or Camper. On a personal level I like to support companies that take sustainability into consideration in their manufacturing process.

These are great shoes and I was able to wear them most of the day right out of the box without having any discomfort. The leather is a bit stiff new, but I know they will soften with wear. I have friends who have worn these shoes almost every day for years.

Absolutely LOVE these! I’m wearing my rose gold ones as I write this, pretty much have worn them everyday since they arrived. I wear 81/2-9 ordered the 39 fits very comfortably!

Love these sneakers! Super comfortable footbed and easy on and off. The leather tongue does take some time to loosen up. It killed one of my ankles because it rubbed the first week of wear. I powered through and it doesn’t rub against my ankle in the least bit now.

Unfortunately, it’s big for me. I ordered a size 7 which is normally my size but it’s so big I could wear it with a fuzzy socks. Lol! It’s cute and comfy though. I don’t think there’s a need for a break in. Returning them.

The shoes are super stylish and adorable on. I wore them twice and noticed that some paint/leather started to come off. With that said, Zappos has wonderful customer service so I was able to return the shoes and get a similar pair (I would have gotten the same ones but they were out of stock).
I am convinced that after I break them in, they would be comfortable. But similar to the other reviews, the lip of the shoe was so stiff and hard that it actually dug into my skin where it hit. I have scars. My advice is to wear longer socks when breaking them in.

Ordered these and the order went through. Got an email saying the order was “delayed” and called customer service who told me delayed means that I won’t receive the item. Just horrible service. Since when does delayed mean you won’t get the item?

The tongue rubs the front of your ankle pretty badly, hoping it will soften as they break in. I do wish Vera offered 1/2 sizes. The 39 was just too small and the 40 feels a bit too large.

I am a US8.5 and wear a 39 in another Veja style. I love this in the matcha but the 39 was WAY too small. Toe bending small. I have reordered a 40 in white ??

Size felt slightly big at first but with no show socks they were a dream walking all over the city. I’ve worn this with work dresses, going out and casually with jeans – most importantly, they are SUPER comfortable!

Love this shoe! I usually wear a 6.5 in Nikes. Ordered a 6 and it fit perfectly. Love that the toe box is more forgiving than Air Force Ones. I didn’t have any issues with the tongue rubbing against my foot. Comfortable and light. Definitely recommend.

I was so excited to get a pair of tan nubuck velcro sneakers. But there were 2 issues. The first was that there is a very slight mismatch in the color of the shoes. The left one was slightly more grayish and the right one was slightly more yellowish. These were very slight differences but noticeable to me, and my husband could see it too. Maybe no one else would, but I would feel like I was wearing defective or less-than-perfect shoes. One thing I think contributed to the difference in tone was that the nubuck was shorter and less dense on the left toe allowing more of the leather to show. It seems like the thicker nubuck grabs and holds more dye. The second issue is only apparent when you put them on. Once I put my foot in the shoe the velcro doesn’t go all the way across and so it leaves some of the bottom piece of white velcro exposed, which looks sort of silly on the tan shoes. And the makers used tan threads to sew on the velcro so the tan thread on the white velcro is exposed. They should have used tan velcro so that the shoes, the velcro and the stitching is all the same tone and doesn’t look bad when you can’t pull the velcro all the way across.

These shoes were super cute but the Velcro top had no give. It felt like when they were designed they didn’t account for putting your foot in them, so ultimately when the straps folded over they didn’t fully cover the bottom velcro. I worried this would make the shoes show their wear very quickly so I returned. The only solution was pulling the Velcro very tight which ultimately made them very tight on the top of my foot. For me I need a little give in the top of my shoe to be comfortable. I exchanged for a lace pair which I find very comfortable.
